It’s an inspiring story . A chance encounter led a Good Samaritan to help an island brother get off the streets of Florida and return back home to Guam.

Former Guam resident Peter Toves lives in Florida, and a trip to Walmart placed him on a path to meet another former Guam resident Vincent Pangelinan.

Toves said Pangelinan approached him at the store asking for food and help because he has been living on the streets of Florida with no home or family support.

Toves found out that Pangelinan was also from Guam but had left the island when he was only six years old after his parents divorced. Toves said he spoke with Pangelinan for two hours and discovered that Pangelinan’s mom, Tessa Portia Perez, was still living on Guam and may be residing in Kaiser, Dededo.

“If his mother is listening, please call Patti (Arroyo) to get my number. She can call me. I will accept the collect call no matter what, but I want to make sure that her son is safe.”

Toves said that he plans to buy a plane ticket for Pangelinan, who expressed a desire to return to Guam. Pangelinan hopes of a better living environment and to reconnect with his mother.

If you have information about Tessa Perez or know how to contact her, please call 477-5700 to help reunite a family.
