Humanities Guåhan is offering a free online two-part beginner’s workshop in May led by local filmmaker and photographer Brian Muña, as part of a new program called Art + Ideas.
Participants will explore the art of visual storytelling, learn about composition, and create a 1-2 minute film or documentary with their mobile phone or device of choice.
Both sessions will be held on consecutive Saturdays—May 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and May 30 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Filmmaker Brian Muña is a Guam International Film Festival (GIFF) awardee, best known for his short films, “Luther” and “Plastic Bag.”
Required materials for the workshop include: a mobile phone or other recording device, headphones, and a reliable internet connection. Workshop participants are also encouraged to use a computer and find a quiet space for the duration of the workshop.

Art+Ideas explores the intersection of the creative arts—filmmaking, the visual and performance arts, traditional art making, poetry, creative nonfiction, culinary arts—and the humanities.
Through an ongoing series of immersive and experiential workshops, along with readings, conversations and presentations with students, teachers, scholars, writers, artists, chefs and the larger public, Humanities Guåhan will engage our community around timely topics and ideas relevant to Guam and the Asia-Pacific region through creative and artistic forms of expression and interpretation.
Workshops will take place online in accordance with social distancing guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Humanities Guåhan is a nonprofit organization that provides foundational support and educational programs for the people of Guam. The mission of Humanities Guåhan is to foster community engagement and dialogue, inspire critical thinking, celebrate diversity and enrich the quality of life of island residents through the power of the humanities.
