It was only less than a week after Guam’s Third Economic Impact Payment Plan or EIP 3 was approved by the federal government and the Department of Revenue and Taxation reported Friday morning that more checks have been issued to date.
EIP 3 was authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 which was signed into law by President Biden on March 11.
DRT received the notice of approval for EIP3 on Saturday, April 10, and processed approximately 20,000 payments totaling $53.8 million on that day.
At the start of the week, DRT processed the second batch of EIP 3 payments where approximately 10,000 payments totaling $35 million were processed
DRT director Dafne Shimizu, in an interview with K57’s Patti Arroyo, reported more updates on the program, says that even more payments were processed on Thursday.
“As of yesterday, we already processed 60,000 payments totaling $161 million. I know people have already been receiving direct deposits because even on Monday, I’ve been getting emails of people getting direct deposits of their EIP and direct deposits of their refunds. So we are really happy to finally get these payments out,” Shimizu said.
