Inmate Found Dead at DOC; Medical Examiner Rules Suicide

The inmate was found unconscious in his cell between 6:00 and 6:30 this morning.

Guam – The inmate who was found dead this morning inside his prison cell died of suicide, according to Medical Examiner Dr. Aurelio Espinola.

Dr. Espinola could not release the identity of the inmate or the manner of death but he did rule it a suicide.

Meanwhile, Department of Corrections Internal Affairs Officer Lt. Jeff Limo says the department is still conducting an internal affairs investigation. He says the inmate was found this morning unconscious in his cell as corrections officers were conducting routine patrols.

“Around the hours of 6:00 to 6:30 this morning, officers were doing their routine checks where they discovered a male inmate lifeless in his cell. Medical personnel were called down to assess the situation. It was then that they contacted Guam Fire Department medics as well as the Guam Police Department. So at the scene they did their prelim reports and then CIS was called also with forensics. They determined that further investigation was needed,” explains Limo.

Limo says the inmate was being housed at Post 2 but he could not disclose whether the inmate had other cell mates inside his cell at the time he was found unconscious.
