Guam – The Department of Corrections may no longer have a dedicated medical clinic.

On Mornings with Patti today, DOC Director Tony Lamorena told K57 listeners that medical care services for inmates are in jeopardy with no funding provided for the service. Lamorena said that DOC will have to send inmates needing medical attention directly to the Guam Memorial Hospital should the hospital stop providing the services over funding issues. This, however, would put the prison in jeopardy as medical care is required under a federal consent decree.

Lamerona says the funding to keep the agency’s clinic open was cut from the year’s budget, and if GMH decides to close to the clinic, inmate care will be yet another burden the island’s public hospital will have to bear.
