IT&E Working Hard to Restore Services; Main Fiber Cable and Microwave Link Still Down

IT&E crews have been working around the clock to restore services to the CNMI but don’t expect a full restoration just yet as both the company’s microwave link and main fiber cable are still damaged.

According to PTI CEO Jim Oehlerking, as of this morning, limited voice connections have been established between Guam and Saipan and they’re still working hard to restore more lines.

The main fiber cable connecting Guam and the CNMI that was wrecked early yesterday morning is still down. IT&E, according to their release, is still trying to find what caused this break, although in an earlier statement, the company says there are indications that the damage was due to the recent storm that passed Tropical Storm Chan-hom. IT&E has pinpointed the damage between Tinian and Saipan and has deployed a response team to Tinian.

However, the microwave link that was damaged in Typhoon Dolphin in May and serves as a back up to the fiber cable was partially restored.
