IT&E and 10T Tech Limited have announced the launch of digital eSIM services in the CNMI and Guam starting Feb. 3, 2020.
This advanced service allows smartphone owners with the latest Apple iPhones, iPads and Google Pixel 3 and 3a devices to sign up for IT&E services by purchasing a QR code.
“We’re excited to partner with Apple and 10T Tech to be the first certified carrier in Guam and the Marianas to offer eSIM. Providing our subscribers with the latest mobile technology and convenience is our highest priority,” said Jim Oehlerking, CEO of IT&E, adding that subscribers will benefit from a more streamlined experience.
eSIM, or embedded SIM, serves the same functionality as a traditional physical SIM card but allows for multiple SIM profiles to be stored on the device.
eSIM enables a function called Dual-SIM Dual-Standby (DSDS), which allows IT&E customers to send and receive calls and text messages from two different numbers, like their work and personal numbers, on the same device.
When traveling, IT&E customers can enjoy Mobile Passport the same way with the freedom of being able to use another SIM at the same time.
Sean Leon Guerrero, Network Device Performance Technician at IT&E, said: “Our introduction of eSIM is another example of our commitment to rolling out technology that brings meaningful and tangible benefit to our customers. We continue to densify our network, expand our global roaming footprint and deploy enhanced device features for our customers to fully benefit from the capabilities of their smartphones. Our roadmap will continue leading the way with our customers first.”
Lucy Aponik, Supervisor, Global Roaming & Device Technology at IT&E said initially, customers will use a printed QR Code voucher to instruct their device to download the eSIM Profile.
In the future, IT&E will launch a fully digital sign-up experience where mobile subscribers can use an electronic QR code to download their eSIM profile.
