Guam – 41 year old Bernard Alan Jennings was magistrated in Superior Court Friday afternoon on charges of attempted murder.
According to the complaint, GPD Officers went to the the Ladera Towers in Mangilao on a disturbance call and were told that a woman on the 8th floor had been stabbed and that “the person responsible was still on the scene locked in an apartment with the victim’s 9-year old daughter.”
The GPD SWAT team was activated.
Officers found the victim, Latasha Tate in a nearby apartment where she had fled for assistance. “Ms. Tate had been stabbed in the neck area and was bleeding profusely.” The occupant of the apartment that Tate fled to told Police that when “he let her in she told him, ‘Can you help me. My boyfriend is trying to kill me. He slit my throat.'”
The complaint does not reveal what type of weapon was used.
Tate’s 9-year old daughter was later found locked in her apartment and a Security Guard reportedly saw Jennings leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.
GPA issued an alert for the vehicle and within an hour the vehicle was located, although the complaint does not say where. Upon approaching the vehicle police observed Jennings sitting in his car and after removing him they noticed “a dried red substance to be blood on Jennings and throughout the vehicle.”
Jennings is a support staffer with the Navy’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit.
He remains in jail on a $250-thousand dollar bond.
