Guam- The first phase of the demolition of the old John F. Kennedy High School in Upper Tumon has finally begun in earnest.
International Bridge Corporation’s heavy demolition equipment Thursday began to knock down the old school in sections and carrying away the debris. The library, cafeteria, fines arts classes, the Foreign language rooms, the English wing and the court yard stage are all gone.
JFK teacher Angelo Andres says he’s glad that progress is being made at the old campus.
Andres says, ” I think IBC is doing a great job and everyone from JFK are really excited about this news.”
Andres says they are doing a running count and as of Friday (October 8th) there’s 255 days to go before the June 20th completion date.
IBC expects demolition to be completed within the next two to three weeks. While the demolition is proceeding, IBC will finalize the design documents for the new campus and once that’s done, they will be submitting it for a building permit with DPW.
