Guam – The Joint Information Center has issued the following release #11 advising that Tropical Storm Francisco is intensifying and will soon make its turn north.
TS Francisco Intensifying; Stay Tuned for Any Changes to Readiness Level
JIC News Release #11
October 17, 2013 (8:30 a.m.)
We just finished briefing with officials at Civil Defense. Tropical Storm Francisco may soon make its expected turn north. It is intensifying, and is close to becoming a typhoon.
Guam remains in Condition of Readiness 3. Schools and the government of Guam remain open.
We expect for schools to stay open as usual through the rest of the day. Whether after school programs will continue this afternoon will be determined as information becomes available.
Guamanians should stay tuned to the news in case Tropical Storm Francisco turns further our way, or otherwise brings heavier weather our way. A rapid intensification or sudden turn may cause the Governor to place Guam in Condition of Readiness 2, which would mean Guam could expect damaging winds sooner (within 24 hours rather than 48 hours).
Please call the Joint Information Center at 475-9600 if you have any questions.
