Joint Region: Clean Up, Recover Efforts Continue for Grounded “Daiki Maru”


Apra, Harbor, Guam – (Feb. 24) – Federal personnel and contractors have filled about a dozen 55-gallon drums with the diesel fuel that was was removed from the shipwrecked Japanese commercial fishing vessel “Daiki Maru”.

The “Daiki Maru” ran aground on the reef near the Spanish Steps in Apra Harbor on Feb. 13.

U.S. Naval Base Guam, in partnership with numerous federal and local agencies, has been conducting cleanup and recovery efforts since the mishap.

Just what will happen to the vessel itself, has not yet been announced.
