Jose Rios Middle School students evacuated for fire

Guam – Jose Rios Middle School was evacuated this afternoon following a fire in the boys restroom.

According to the Guam Fire Department, the structure fire started around 11:55 this morning in the 8th grade wing.

GFD spokesperson Kevin Reilly says the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The school was evacuated and the fire was under control by 12:05pm.

Guam Department of Education’s spokesperson Isa Baza tells media outlets that school administrators called 911 and both the Guam Police Department and Guam Fire Department responded. The all-clear was given to students at 12:30pm.

Baza says no injuries are reported at this time; however, the area will remain blocked off to students due to minor smoke damage.
