Judge James Canto’s last day will be on July 15.
Guam – Superior Court Judge James Canto will be stepping down from the bench, leaving a vacancy that the Judiciary of Guam is urging Governor Eddie Calvo to fill immediately.
Canto says he is relocating to the US Mainland to be closer to his children.
In a release, Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Torres thanked Judge Canto for his service and noted that he was an integral part of the judiciary family and in implementing their Strategic Plan.
Prior to serving as a judge, Canto was the chief legal counsel for Governor Eddie Calvo who appointed him to the bench at the start of his administration in 2011.
Justice Torres has written to Governor Calvo asking him to fill Canto’s vacancy immediately as Canto does have an active case load. Canto’s last day is on July 15.
