Judiciary accepting nominations for Hustisia Award

As part of its nationally recognized Law Week celebration, the Judiciary of Guam is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Hustisia Award. The deadline for submission is Friday, April 3, 2020.

The Hustisia Award recognizes a person or organization that has contributed to improving the administration of justice and good government. The selection committee considers whether a nominee has:

* Fostered building public support for the judiciary;
* Promoted respect for the law and understanding of the judicial system;
* Encouraged civic responsibility and service; and
* Volunteered time and talents to the court in serving the people of Guam.

Last year’s Hustisia Award winner was the Guam Chamber of Commerce. Past organizational recipients include Erica’s House, Soroptimist International of Guam and Soroptimist International of the Marianas (2018); Inafa’Maolek (2017); and the Public Defender Service Corp. (2016).

In addition, the award has been presented to former Senator Pilar Cruz Lujan (2015); Attorney Joaquin C. Arriola, Sr. (2014); Vice Speaker Benjamin J.F. Cruz (2013); Judge Richard H. Benson (2012); retired District Court of Guam Judge Cristobal C. Duenas (posthumously, 2011); retired Supreme Court of Guam Justice Janet Healy Weeks (2010); and Alee Shelter Program Director Sister Bridget Perez, RSM (2009).

Nominations should include a statement about the nominee (250 word limit). Submit nominations to Attorney Danielle T. Rosete, Superior Court Clerk of Court, by email at drosete@guamcourts.org or to the Superior Court Clerk’s office at the Judiciary of Guam. (Judiciary press release)
