Jury selection got underway today in the murder trial of Brandon Michael Acosta who is accused in the 2018 killing of 15-year old Timicca Nauta.
According to court records, Acosta admitted “admitted his involvement” in the death which occurred at Nauta’s great-grandmother’s home along Chalan Koda in Dededo
The Okkodo High School student was found dead in her bedroom. She was sexually assaulted and then stabbed to death.
Superior Court Judge Vernon Perez is presiding. In court Friday he said he hopes to have a jury seated by tomorrow.
“My intention is to have 75-80 proposed jurors in the morning. The same amount in the afternoon from those two sessions — one at 9:30 one at 2:00. We’ll direct those that are eligible to be jurors to come back the following afternoon on Tuesday afternoon. Depending on where we are at on Monday afternoon, if we have enough people to choose the jury for Mr. Acosta’s trial, then we won’t need to utilize Tuesday morning,” the judge said.
The first witness in the case is not expected to testify until Wednesday.
Acosta faces life in prison if convicted.
