Guam – More than 100 players and coaches came to Guam Football Association Sunday for the second edition of The Score’s “Just Kick It” All-Girls Event – a four-week event featuring soccer matches reserved solely for girls up to the age of 17.

“I played in the All-Girls last time and I am playing again because I like doing soccer,” said Alyssa Pangelinan, a five-year-old student at Machanaonao Elementary School. “I like playing on the same team with my sisters and my friends and I like kicking the ball.”

Pangelinan played Sunday in the U8 division with her sisters and some teammates from Community First Dededo Soccer Club and other youth clubs. Pangelinan also will be playing in the U8 division in the upcoming Docomo Pacific Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League.

Matches in the U8, U10, and U12 age divisions kicked off at 3 p.m., while U17 matches began at 4 p.m.

“You can tell a lot of the girls were excited to get back on the pitch to play matches after the two-month break from the fall season of the youth league,” said Grace Martinez, GFA Women’s Administrator. “Even after the scheduled matches, many of the girls still wanted to stay at GFA to play more.

“The All-Girls Event is great for our young female athletes, as it helps in building their self-confidence and their overall development in the sport. GFA is inviting all girls to play in the All-Girls Event – we’ll place new players onto teams if they aren’t already on one,” Martinez added.

The only requirement to play in the All-Girls Event is to register for a player ID card at GFA. The registration fee for the player ID card is $40. The player ID card is valid until Dec. 31, 2014 and may be used for both seasons of the youth league and any other upcoming youth tournaments. Players may register for cards during GFA Main Office business hours, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and also temporarily on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event concludes Mar. 2, with all matches on Sundays. After the conclusion of the All-Girls Event, mothers will take to the pitch in the second edition of the GFA Soccer Moms League, set to begin Mar. 9.
