The king of Spain has been invited to come to Guam a little over a year from now to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan’s circumnavigation around the world.
Members of the Estoria-Ta Commission met at the Lujan House in Hagatna today to continue planing for the events that will mark the occasion next year.
In about 400 days, Guam and other places around the world will commemorate the 500th anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan’s circumnavigation around the world.
To pay tribute to this occasion, the Estoria-Ta Commission is inviting the public to help present the Chamoru perspective of this historical event.
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero is calling all government agencies to work with Estoria-Ta to participate in the commission’s activities.
She has also invited Felipe the Sixth, the king of Spain, to attend the circumnavigation commemoration on March 21st, 2021.
And to engage the public, Chamorro Affairs representative Dr. Michael Bevacqua says that the commission will keep everyone informed through their social media pages.
“This is a chance for Guam to be engaged at a global level. Every school has to learn about Magellan at some point. This is our chance to be involved in that. Through these social media pages, we’ll be putting facts about Magellan and Guam’s history connected to it,” Bevacqua said.
