Guam -The Micronesia Island Fair kicks off a week from this Friday at Ypao Beach Park in Tumon and the theme for the three day event is A Taste of Micronesia. The Fair will feature traditional cooking, traditional recipes and food from the different islands of Micronesia.
The Guam Visitors Bureau Assistant General Manager Ernie Galito says this is the 23rd year for the island fair, but it wasn’t always helf in October. Galito says the fair use to be held in May as part of the celebration for the Guam Tourism Month. But since that month was robust with travelers, GVB decided to move the fair to October, a month when fewer visitors come to Guam. Galito says one of the highlights for the fair will be the Koko Race.
Galito says ther Guam Koko race is a half marathon run or a 4 person relay race. We are anticipating any where between 1,000 to 1,300 runners. About 700 of those runners will be coming from off island. So this might be the first time that they have been to Guam, attracted by the road race. The fair will give them a sample of Micronesia without leaving Guam. The island fair will take place from October 15th to the 17th.
