KTF Record 3,400 Runners, Raised $30,000

(Hagåtña, GUAM) – Friday, March 29, 2013 – Pay-Less Markets Community Foundation announced their annual “Pay-Less Kick the Fat 5K Run/Walk & Community Fair” welcomed a record crowd of over 3,400 runners and raised a total of $30,000 for event beneficiaries. iRecycle and Erica’s House of Hope each received $11,000 and the remaining $8,000 was distributed between Guam Running Club, Serve Guam & AmeriCorps, Guma Mami and HCA Service Club.
Kathy Sgro, Executive Vice President of Pay-Less Supermarkets said, “We are proud to provide this event for the community to encourage a healthy lifestyle, promote awareness of health related organizations and to help raise funds for these worthy non-profit organizations.”

This year the Pay-Less Kick the Fat 5K went “green” as event organizers worked closely with iRecycle to provide recycling stations at the community fair and signage along the course to educate runners on how to keep our island sustainable. Detailed  below are some statistics on what this effort achieved:
•    22 bags of biodegradables (shredded and used as mulch)
•    60 gallons of food waste
•    18 bags of plastics and 2 bags of steel cans (delivered to Pyramid Recycling)
•    3 bags of aluminum cans (delivered to Simon Sanchez High School Recycling Container)
•    1 roll-off of cardboard (picked up by Mr. Rubbishman)
