Guam – The Mayor of Lathrop, California is on Guam, hoping to increase ties between the island and his city of 18,000 residents.
Joseph Santos or “Chaka” calls Guam his ancestral home and says that while California has been his home for many years the Chamorro culture is still a big part of his life.
Chaka became the Mayor of Lathrop in December of last year and says that after his two year term he plans to run for State Senator, and eventually run for Governor.
During his two week stay on Guam the Mayor plans to collaborate with some of Guam’s Mayors and encourage Guam students to stay in school.
Mayor Chaka also owns a nationally distributed line of barbecue sauces called “Chaka Sauce.” He says the sauce is diabetic friendly using a sugar and fat free recipe.
