Guam – Lawmakers went into session Monday to discuss a 14 bills beginning with a measure that would require an event admission assessment at the Guam Raceway Park.
Organizers of any event at the raceway park that charges admission would then have to pay a ten percent event admission assessment to the government of Guam.
The bill was introduced by Senator Ben Pangelinan who says that many events have been held at the raceway park without paying the proper taxes. “It would allow once again like I said the Guam raceway federation to make sure that we collect the back taxes and so that there’s no dispute now on who’s responsible for collecting the admissions and remitting those payments of the admission’s tax to of course the coffers of the government of Guam,” said Pangelinan.
In addition to the list of bills below which will be considered, legsilators will also consider an over-ride of the Governor’s veto of:
Bill No. 271-30 (COR) – Sponsor: AB Palacios, Sr. An act to repeal §77108, Chapter 77, Title 10, Guam Code Annotated, “Authority to hire attorney”; and to repeal §3104, Chapter 3, Title 5, Guam Code Annotated, relative to establishing provisions for the Attorney General to provide legal services to the Guam Police Department, and relative to the positions of Fire Chief and Chief of Police, and for other purposes.
