Lawmakers Pass 21 Bills & Override Another in Second to Last Session

377

Guam – Guam lawmakers Tuesday acted on 21 bills, approving all of them. They also overrode the Governor’s veto of one measure.

One of the bills passed would appropriate $1.5 million dollars to DPW for the repair of village streets that were damaged as a result of road diversions.

It will also pave a road into the Gill Baza subdivision allowing school buses to drive in and thereby cut down on the long walk students currently have to take to get out to the bus stop.

Also passed was a bill that requires clergy members to report any suspected child abuse or neglect by the clergy members of any church or other religious organization.

Another measure that made the cut was a bill that requires a women’s voluntary and informed consent before an abortion can be performed or induced.

At the end of the Session, Speaker Judi Wonpat said this won’t be the last session of the 30th Guam legislature.

“I understand senator Ben Pangelinan has a whole slew of bills this coming Friday and next week there will be others so we will definitely be having session December probably mid-December depending how many bills are ready to go before the floor,” said Speaker Wonpat.

On Wednesday, the legislature will meet Assistant Secretary Jackie Pfanenstiel and CEQ chairwoman Nancy Sutley and next week Senators will get a visit from members of the Okinawan Assembly.
