Legislature Honors JROTC Students Who Won the Golden Bear Competition


Guam -The Guam Legislature celebrates the achievement of Guam public school students as they take top honors in the National Golden Bear Drill Competition – the U.S. Army JROTC Drill and Color Guard Competition held in Torrence, California in April.

Again, our students earned numerous awards and placements in the national event.

Students were presented with certificates commending them on their accomplishments and participation. The cadets also performed their award winning routines after the presentation.

“This demonstrates what the Guam teacher and the Guam student can accomplish when there is focused leadership, clear learning outcomes, family school partnerships, and student-driven activities,” says Senator Aline A.Yamashita, main sponsor of Resolution No. 416-31(COR) presented Thursday, 24 May 2012 at the Guam Legislature.

Senators applaud JROTC Program instructors Major Paul Luarca, Captain Joe Santos, Sergeant First Class Joe Iglesias, Sergeant First Class Joseph Achvida, and First Sergeant Cecilio Meno for their dedication to student success. During the presentation, Sen. Yamashita was joined by Sen. Rory Respicio, Sen. Mana Silva-Taijeron, Acting Speaker, Senator Tina Muna Barnes and Sen. Sam Mabini.

“With such leadership, Guam’s future is being cultivated well,” adds Yamashita.
