Leo Manibusan Appointed to U.S. Merchant Marine Academy


Guam – Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo has announced that Guam resident Leo Peter Kashihara Manibusan has been appointed to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.

Leo was nominated by Congresswoman Bordallo and competed with nominees nationwide for admission to the Merchant Marine Academy. The USMMA admission board selected Leo based on his academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.

Leo is the son of Peter and Reiko Kashihara Manibusan of Mongmong, Guam, and is currently a senior at Father Duenas Memorial School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, FDMS Student Council, and the FDMS Rugby team. In 2011, Leo received a scholarship from the Department of the Interior to represent FDMS in the Junior States of America Summer School at Stanford University. He also received the highest individual score in the University of Guam’s Chemistry Titration Competition.  Leo is an active volunteer in the Nuestra Senora Delas Aguas Church and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam.
