Liberation Carnival opening date postponed again

The House of Cards structure will be removed to enable the Department of Parks and Recreation to make use of the space.

The new opening date has been pushed back to July 12.

Guam – Mayors have decided to delay, yet again, the opening of this year’s Liberation Carnival.

Setbacks in funding and vendor interest have already pushed back the start of the annual festivities, but according to Dededo Mayor Melissa Savares inclement weather is the reason tomorrow’s planned opening will instead take place on the 12th.

Mayors Council Executive Director Angel Sablan adds organizers have also planned for contingencies on that day as well, telling PNC that if it rains next Wednesday, the Liberation Queen coronation and reception will be moved to the Guam Museum.

Sablan adds they are still accepting vendor applications between now and the 12th, and that interested parties should ask for Jeff San Nicolas at the Chamorro Village office.
