Guam – After a brief delay, the liberation carnival is set for a soft opening tonight.

The carnival was originally set to begin during FestPac to take advantage of all the delegates, however, chairman of liberation festivities Ray Blas tells PNC that the carnival was postponed to give time for the over 55 vendors to recover from FestPac. Blas says his team was on site Monday and Tuesday inspecting booths. Blas also says that this year, the post office has agreed to open up its parking lot for carnival parking. But lingering concerns remain with the Tiyan carnival site chief among them being lack of access points for carnival participants. At a mayor’s council meeting earlier this year, mayors agreed to work with various agencies to open up an additional access point to the Tiyan fair grounds. Mayor’s council executive president Angel Sablan says they haven’t given up on the prospect of opening another access point, but FestPac festivities prevented further talks. The liberation casino has been open since last week and liberation carnival bingo started earlier this week.
