Guam- The Mayors Council of Guam has confirmed the 2012 Liberation Carnival will be returning to Tiyan this summer.
Executive Director Angel Sablan says Tiyan was a former carnival site 10 years ago before a typhoon closed it down. He mentions with more space for vendors and parking for visitors, the Tiyan area is preferred over the Paseo de Susana in Hagatna.
With the Hagatna Bridge construction to start and the busy activities of the Chamorro Village Night Market, Sablan says the carnival has outgrown its current location and they need something bigger for everyone.
“We just felt it was only fair for our vendors, who put in a lot of money, to give them an area where they can actually have more people come and enjoy the carnival and be able for our concessioners to not get their money back, but make a little more” said Sablan.
The carnival grounds are expected to open around June 1. Sablan says they will start clearing Tiyan in the next few weeks and construction for the site will be begin in May.
