Guam – Sean Salas Lipanovich and Stan Yasuhiro represented Guam at Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2014 FIM Asia Asian Motocross Championship on April 11 and 12 in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. Round one took place on friday April 11th and Round 2 was on saturday April 12th with each Rounds having 2 motos per day.
Sean Lipanovich raced against the top racers in the series and placed 3rd overall for the 2 rounds. He finished at 3rd place on the first 3 motos of the weekend, but took the win on last moto in the very competitive 2014 MX2 or 250F class. Ben “Ben Ten” Suksripaisan took 1st overall and Arnon “Turbo” Theplip taking 2nd. “It is super hot… I need to train wearing jackets next time”, said Sean during the races. He was pouring water over himself and putting his feet in iced water between races to lower his core temperature. “I had to keep telling myself to Breathe, Breathe, Breathe ” in the final laps of Sean’s races. Sean’s 3rd overall was the best finish in the MX2 class for Guam in FIM Asia history.
Stan Yasuhiro is back racing after FIM Asia raised the age limit from 55 to 60 years in the Veteran Class. This year, the Malaysians trained and did their homework to field 2 competitive Vetran racers. In motos 1 and 2, Yasuhiro place 7th and 5th due to distractions being a federation president at the event, but finished 2nd on the last 2 motos, earning a 3rd overall.
Tom Tarnate was the mechanic and Greg Perez was the manager for Sean Lipanovich. Rounds 3 and 4 will take place in Manila, Philippines on June 8th.
