With less than a month to prepare for the pageant, local girl Madison Cruz was crowned National Miss Curvy 2020 in Reno, Nevada earlier this week.
National Miss Curvy is an International Pageant that promotes body positivity and self-image.
It all started when Cruz was on her way back home from visiting family in California and was influenced by her peers who experienced the pageant scene to participate in the competition.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cruz says her experience was quite stressful. She had to learn everything by herself, along with pageant walking, and she realized that beauty is not always the major factor in winning a pageant.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Cruz said she had fun and was thankful for the experience…
“There are not a lot of pageants organized that embrace bigger girls… and I was thankful that this was put together to show that they can do the same as skinny girls,” Cruz said.
In an interview with PNC, Cruz shares her advice to people who struggle with body shaming.
“As long as you are happy with yourself, and it took me a while to find happiness in the way I look, and as long as YOU are happy with yourself, that’s all that matters,” Cruz said emphatically.
