A child abuse complaint has led to the arrest of a man accused of aggravated assault.

Alfred Fred was charged with aggravated assault with the special allegation of use of a deadly weapon, family violence, child abuse, and arson. He was booked and confined.

Police say that the minor girl sustained an inch-long laceration to her left eyebrow during the altercation. The injury prompted school officials to file a child abuse report.

Court documents state Fred allegedly pushed the child, causing her to fall and hit her head on a table.

When police investigated the injury, they discovered that the child was not the only one assaulted by Fred.

Police say that the girl’s seven-year-old brother was also abused. Fred allegedly picked up the boy and threw him at his mother during the altercation.

As the mother held her son on the floor, Fred came from behind and punched her repeatedly on her upper back with clenched fists. She had a number of black and blue bruises on her upper back, 3 to 4 inches in diameter.

According to court documents, Fred allegedly retrieved a baseball bat and attempted to hit the children’s mother but a witness was able to take away the weapon.

Court documents state that while medics were transporting the female minor to the hospital for treatment, Fred picked up a rock and attempted to strike the mother but missed.
