The Guam Police Department says a 47-year-old man has been arrested, after he allegedly robbed a vehicle in the parking lot of the Dededo Precinct Command, while an off-duty officer was sitting inside.
Police say on Monday, around 5:20am, officers from the Dededo station answered a vehicle-burglary call, in the Command’s parking lot.
The preliminary police report, suggests that an off-duty police officer had arrived for his shift and parked his personal vehicle in the parking lot of the Dededo Precinct Command.
Police say that while still inside the vehicle, the off-duty police officer noticed an unknown man had opened his car’s front passenger door and grabbed the officer’s bag.
The off-duty policeman arrested the man, later identified as 47-year-old, Rodney Cepeda Quitugua.
In his interview with police, Quitugua said that he had just been released from Guam Regional Medical City and was waiting at the precinct for his ride.
Quitugua told police, that he thought the off-duty officer’s car was his ride and he tried to enter the car.
Police arrested and charged Quitugua for Burglary to a Vehicle.
He was booked and confined at the Department of Corrections and the case has now been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for prosecution.
