Marines Welcome New Public Affairs Officer, Major Aisha Bakkar

Guam –  Marine leaders and staff welcomed Major Aisha Bakkar earlier this month upon her arrival to Guam to take her new role as the Public Affairs Officer for Marine Forces Pacific Forward Guam & CNMI.   

Major Bakkar’s most recent posting was at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point in North Carolina where she was Director, Joint Public Affairs Office for the air station and 2d Marine Aircraft Wing.  In 2009, she was also selected for the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Within the time frame she’s been on island thus far, Major Bakkar has already hit the ground running by attending two community forums (2010 PEACE Conference and the Guam Coalition against Sexual Assault and Family Violence) and a strategic and crisis communication seminar, besides courtesy calls to local government, community, military, and private sector officials.

Major Bakkar is married to Matthew Hempel and has two daughters, Abigail Grace and Amelia Mary.  They have just moved into their new home in Macheche, Dededo.
