Guam- The Guam National Guard tested its readiness skills under a maritime environment through exercise Kontra I Piligru.

The Guard’s 94th Civil Support Team participated with other local and federal agencies at the Port Authority and Naval Base Guam for the two day training event. Colonel Joseph Limtiaco says they went through chemical and biological training scenarios to test inter-agency response capabilities and prepare to execute possible missions.

Working with the Port, Homeland Security, GPD and other first responders is important to their mission, said Limtiaco.

“It goes with our mission readiness” said Limtiaco. “We’re an operation of the unit so we have to train constantly to make sure that we are ready to prepare. God forbid we have to actually use our capabilities, but we train to it to make sure we’re ready to respond to the call of the civil authorities here.”

Guam Shipyard also provided support for the training event. The exercise ended Wednesday.
