The Archdiocese of Agaña is joining family and friends of the late Monsignor David I.A. Quitugua in prayerful remembrance of the beloved Chamorro priest this week.
A special Mass in memory of Monsignor David will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at San Juan Bautista Catholic Church in Ordot. Monsignor David served as pastor of San Juan Bautista for 23 years, from 1993 to 2016.
Archbishop Michael Byrnes will then celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica in Hagåtña.
Numerous priests of the archdiocese will concelebrate the Mass. Interment will follow at Pigo Catholic Cemetery in Anigua.

On both days, COVID-19 safety protocols such as wearing of masks and social distancing will be strictly required.
Monsignor David Ignacio Arceo Quitugua, familian Aliak/Chelenko, of Agana Heights, Pastor Emeritus of San Juan Bautista Church, died Sept. 15 at the age 84. He was one of the most senior priests of the Archdiocese of Agaña and was loved by many on Guam as well as the Northern Marianas. He served faithfully in the Catholic Church for 56 years.
A very kind, loving, and gentle priest, Monsignor David was ordained to the priesthood on Feb. 11, 1964 by then Bishop Apollinaris Baumgartner at the Agana Cathedral. He celebrated his 50th golden jubilee as a priest in 2014.
Monsignor David founded the non-profit group, Catholic Social Services in 1977, and served as its first director.
