Guam – Matson Navigation has announced a 4.75% increase in its fuel surcharge for all shipment to the Marianas, Micronesia and Hawaii. Pacific Business News is reporting that the rate increase becomes effective February 27th.
The fuel surcharge rates for service to Guam, Saipan and Micronesia is going up to 28% from 23.25%.
To Hawaii, the fuel surcharge is going up from 21.75% now to 26.5%.
Matson Senior Vice President Dave Hoppes explained the increase by saying that “fuel prices have been rising dramatically over the past several months, necessitating this new upward adjustment.”
Matson is a subsidiary of Honolulu based Alexander and Baldwin.
