Matua Platoon Comes Home

Guam – 35 members of the Guam National  Guard  Matua Platoon were welcomed home with open arms Sunday and Monday night at the Guam International Airport.

Since January of this year, they’ve been participating in Operation Enduring Freedom in the southern Philippines.

The Muslim dominated south is a strong-hold of the Abu-SaYyaf which has links to Al Queda.

The Matua Platoon’s mission was to provide internal security to other forces in the region. And to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Mindanao. The Guam National Guard has more than 50 other soldiers and airmen currently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
