The rain that fell on Guam Sunday was a record for that day.
The National Weather Service reports that 2.48 inches of rain was recorded at the Guam International Airport on Sunday, May 31. That broke a 29-year-old record for that day.
The previous record for rainfall on May 31 was 1.47 inches set in 1991.
However, that was not the all-time record for rain within a 24-hour period on Guam.
“We didn’t even come close to an all-time record,” said National Weather Service forecaster Ken Kleeschultee. “It’s way more than that.”
He said the single-day record for rainfall on Guam is in the 18 to 20-inch range. He did not immediately have the date.
