The Mayors Council of Guam this afternoon unanimously approved an increase in pay for the mayors’ support staff and maintenance workers.

The adjustment will take effect on March 1. The pay increase varies but could be as much as one dollar an hour for some employees.

Mayors Council Executive Director Angel Sablan appealed for support, saying that some employees have gone without a pay raise for as long as 20 years.

“It’s going to be around up to one dollar increase per hour. The employees that have known about it are anxious to get it. I just want to express to them that for many, many years they have never gotten an upward adjustment on their salary,” Sablan said.

In support of the raises, Sinajana Mayor Robert Hoffman also reminded those in attendance at today’s meeting of all the things that staff workers do like catching stray dogs, helping with fiestas and funerals, and responding to flooding and other emergency weather events.
