Guam – Former Umatac Mayor Dean Sanchez has passed away in his home Monday morning.
Sanchez has had issues with his health over the past few years. He had been undergoing dialysis treatment three times a week and was in a wheelchair after having both legs amputated at the knee.
Mayor’s Council Executive Director Angel Sablan says even though Sanchez might have expressed himself in ways that some people did not like, he said Sanchez was always thinking about ways to help the people of Umatac.
“Let me say that the man was sincere in trying to help he may have other ways of trying to do it which were not very acceptable to people but in his heart he wanted to do what’s best for Umatac and I give him credit for that,” said Sablan
Sanchez was first appointed Umatac mayor in 1991 to 1993 by Governor Joseph Ada to finish out the term of mayor Albert Topasna who died in office. Sanchez lost his bid for re-election as Mahyor in the November 2012 election.
