This week, village mayors were recognized for assisting the Department of Public Health and Social Services in holding the COVID testing outreach in their respective communities.
With Public Health, the mayors have been at the forefront of the COVID-19 community-based testing activities. So far, outreaches have been conducted all over the island.
This week, DPHSS recognized these efforts by recognizing the mayors as COVID Heroes.
According to Dr. Suzanne Kaneshiro — the Chief Public Health Officer — thousands of swab tests have already been taken since the outreach started several months ago.
“We did over 7,000 swabs at the different villages since we started in April,” Kaneshiro said.
She added that Public Health appreciates the efforts of the mayors and the COVID Hero award is just a way of saying thank you!
