Men’s Soccer Starts Off With 10 Matches

Harmon, Guam – The Southern Cobras scored three goals in 12 minutes before the final whistle, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Budweiser Soccer League Division I defending champions, Quality Distributors FC, in the teams’ 2013-2014 season opener at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.

After falling to a 4-0 deficit in the first half, the Cobras’ Ashton Surber scored his team’s first goal in the 78th minute from just inside the penalty box after taking a pass from David John Cruz. Seven minutes later, Austin Cruz initiated a 1-2 play with Jan Flores and instead of crossing the ball across the goal, Cruz sent his shot past Quality keeper Brett Maluwelmeng. Five minutes later, Eddie Lee Lorenzo beat a Quality defender on a throw-in down the line on the left side and sent the ball to David John Cruz for the score.

Jan-Willem Staman scored three of Quality’s goals in the first half and teammates Aaron Scott and Scott Leon Guerrero added one each for the 5-3 final score.
