Guam – The Guam National Physique Committee (GNPC) is proud to present the Michelob Ultra 2010 Guam National Bodybuilding & Body Fitness Championships and Health & Fitness Fair on Saturday, September 25th at the Guam Marriot Hotel and Spa.
GNPC’s president, MaryAnn Pangelinan says, “This year is going to be a bigger and more exciting event for GNPC. We have over 30 competitors, more competitors than what GNPC has been used to seeing in the past decade. Several military folks will be participating this year. We are expecting over 500 guests.”
GNPC’s administrators have worked diligently promoting the Bodybuilding event in the military bases and have been helping to reestablish fitness and bodybuilding into the community again. The bodybuilding federation has been around since the 80s. This new federation, the GNPC, has been around since the mid-‘90’s. The new officers/administrators have international, national, and local contest experience and are highly knowledgeable of the sport, and they are a perfect team to organize one of the biggest shows on Guam.
The new officers/administrators consist of:
President: MaryAnn Pangelinan
Executive Vice President: Carmela Rapadas
Vice President and Athlete Development: Tony Morrison
Former Treasurer: Kenneth Rios
Acting Treasurer: Joylyn Munoz
Secretary: Steve Oshiro.
GNPC has been actively participating in international events. Most recent was in Auckland, New Zealand in the Pan Pacific/South Pacific Championships in May 2010. Guam’s Gold medalist and Overall Champion Brando Quejado took home another Gold Medal.
GNPC will be sending athletes to the Men’s World Bodybuilding Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan on November 03, 2010, that may include Brando Quejado, Norberto Datuin, and Richard Rosete among others.
Other international contest GNPC is invited to is in Australia, the Australian and South Pacific/Oceania Country of Origin Championships, the World’s Women Championships in Mexico City, Mexico, the Arnold Classic/Amateur in Columbia, Ohio amongst many other IFBB Sanctioned events. The annual Guam National Bodybuilding and Body Fitness Championships is the only fundraiser GNPC holds to raise money for the athletes to participate in international events. The GNPC contest is an IFBB sanctioned event. “We are a proud member of the International Federation of Body Building and Fitness”, says Pangelinan.
“In the past, the bodybuilding federation was not capable of paying for the athlete’s international contests. The competitors had to come up with their own money to finance their trip to be able to participate in these events. Only now, with the new GNPC administration are they capable of paying 100% of the athlete’s trip”, states Pangelinan.
