Guam – The Guam Legislature was called into Session Tuesday afternoon for a special, and solemn ceremony honoring the men and women from Guam who have lost their lives in service to their country.
The names of 30 young service members from Guam were read out loud in the legislative chamber. Family members of the fallen were on hand to receive the “Medal of Ultimate Sacrifice”, a medal authorized by Guam law to honor the service of the servicemen and woman who have paid the ultimate price.
Tuesday’s ceremony was the first of a series of ceremonies which will honor 150 fallen service-members from Guam.
The design for the medal was selected from over 900 entries submitted by island students. The judges chose the design submitted by Angelica Gomez a third grader at Santa Barbara Catholic School.
