Minor steals vehicle, hits police car

A minor has been taken into custody for theft of motor vehicle and aggravated assault.

According to GPD spokesman Sgt. Paul S.N. Tapao, a 17-year-old male minor was taken into custody today by Juvenile Investigators assigned to GPD’s Juvenile Investigation Section.

Preliminary police reports suggest that the male minor was operating a stolen Scion XB and had fled during a course of a traffic stop in the Asan area.

A pursuit ensued and during the course of the pursuit, the operator struck a marked patrol cruiser while motoring on Route 3, NCS Dededo, causing both vehicles off the roadway.

The male minor was immediately apprehended as he fled on foot into the surrounding jungle line. He was later taken into custody by Juvenile Investigators for the following offenses:

-Theft of a Motor Vehicle
-Reckless Driving
-Eluding a Police Officer
-Aggravated Assault
-Assault on a Police Officer and
-No Driver’s License

The 17-year-old male minor was subsequently confined at the Department of Youth Affairs.

Although this case has been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General for prosecution, Tapao said the case is ongoing as juvenile investigators continue to work in closing this case.
