Guam- Miss Guam World is now accepting applications for women to compete in the 2012 Miss Guam World Pageant.

At a press conference located inside the Sheraton Laguna Resort, Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo and pageant officials revealed the event will be held in April because the Miss World Pageant was moved up to August in Mongolia, China.

Bordallo is the franchise holder for the beauty title, which she says is the oldest pageant in the world and is known for giving back to charitable organizations.

“We discontinued Miss World” said Bordallo. “And just last year, we resurrected it and it turned out to be a very successful pageant. I thank everyone that contributed to that and now we have a very active organization that’s ready to start. And of course Miss Robertson is was our first after 25 years and now we’re going to continue on.”

Miss Guam World 2011 Siera Robertson also encourages young women to join and experience “beauty with a purpose.”

“I didn’t think I would ever be a beauty queen and it’s become one of the most amazing things that’s ever happened to me in my life” said Robertson. “I know our island has many beautiful women here and we just need to showcase that. A lot of things are happening. It’s just one of those things that women are lucky enough to experience. So I highly encourage girls to come and join or at least think about it.”

Those interested in applying can contact Kay Lea Custodio at (671) 929-2284 or email missguamworld@yahoo.com . Ladies must be 17 to 24 years of age to compete, have no children and cannot be married.
