Guam- More deployments for members of the Guam National Guard have been scheduled this summer.
Over the weekend, family and friends said goodbye to Air National Guard members of the 254th Red Horse Squadron. The 10 person team will be gone to Southwest Asia for about 6 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Another two airmen also departed to their training site in the U.S. Mainland before going to Afghanistan. In total, there are about 130 Guam National Guard members deployed throughout Southwest Asia.
In addition, two teams with the Army National Guard are expected to be deployed to Afghanistan this summer. They include the 1-294th Infantry Regiment and the F Company, 29th Support Battalion. According to Major General Benny Paulino, one team will provide contracting assistance, while the other will serve as one of the Security Force Advise and Assist Teams in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Despite a reduction in deployment numbers, the expected activation of the 1-294th Infantry Regiment is considered the largest group to be ever deployed from the Guam Guard.
