Senator James Moylan has asked Adelup to use its recently received Section 30 money to prioritize the payment of tax refunds.
According to Moylan, $76,141,259 was transferred to the Government of Guam’s bank account on September 7, 2021, representing the estimated Fiscal Year 2022, Section 30 income tax collections.
“This is great news, and while it was short of the amount your office was requesting, the monies will certainly help with economic recovery. While I am sure that your administration may have plans on how some of these monies will be expended, considering the realities that many families are in jeopardy of losing income (due to the ending of the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program), we do hope that consideration will be made to prioritize volume tax refund payments,” Moylan said in a letter to Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero.
He said this would also help infuse the economy, which is very critical at this time.
“I am certain that this request is not unique and will surely be repeated by any of my colleagues, but nonetheless it is one that needs to be placed as an urgent request considering the circumstances,” Moylan said.
He added: “I am open to a discussion on this and other pertinent issues that are of importance to the recovery of the island. We look forward to your careful consideration of this request.”
