Navy confirms Sailor is suspect in sexual assault case against 13-year-old female

Details regarding the arrest of a man in a criminal sexual conduct complaint were released in court documents Monday.

Joint Region Marianas has confirmed that Zachary Ryan Wood is a Petty Officer 2nd Class who is temporarily assigned to USS Frank Cable on Guam, from USS Emory S. Land.

Guam Police say Wood knowingly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old female he’d met on social media.

“We are aware of the allegations and are cooperating with local authorities, who have the investigative lead,” said Lt. Commander Rick Moore from JRM.

GPD officers say they were contacted after the minor was reported missing from her residence, around 6a.m. Friday August 7.

Nearly an hour into the search, Wood dropped the minor back to her home.

The 13-year-old female told police that she met the defendant over social media, and that he had told her his name was Jonathan.

Police uncovered his true identity, further discovering that days prior to the search the two had met up, and Wood allegedly took the minor to his home in Agana, where they had sex, despite the minor telling him that she was only 14.

Zachary Wood has been charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and two counts of second-degree custodial interference.

He has been booked and confined.

“We expect our personnel to uphold the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty. All personnel are innocent unless proven guilty,” added Lt. Commander Moore.
