Guam – Fishermen will not be allowed to set net in the Agana boat basin.

According to a release from the Port Authority of Guam, the agency is working with the Department of Agriculture to enforce current laws that prohibit people from setting nets in the Agana boat basin. Recently anglers have been complaining about local net fisherman Johnny Atulai Taitano’s fishing methods. Taitano has been setting a net in the Agana boat basin for years now and anglers feel it is unfair.

Today Port Authority General Manager Joanne Brown announced that her agency would work with the Department of Agriculture to enforce the rules that prohibit people from setting nets in the basin. Only two forms of fishing are allowed in the boat basin namely angling or rod and reel fishing and throw net or Talaya fishing.
