Guam – Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) welcomed new elected and appointed board members to its meeting on Thursday, where the bureau’s representative body selected officers and appointed committee chairmen.
Monte Mesa, general manager of Guam Premier Outlets and board chairman for Port Authority of Guam, was selected as the Board of Directors new chairman, a post previously occupied by David B. Tydingco.
Mesa represents one of four board of directors elected to the governing body by members on Jan. 4. The remaining three – Rizk Saad, executive VP for Sandcastle Inc.; returning board member Bruce Kloppenburg, president of Kloppenburg Enterprises Inc.; and returning board member Hayato “Jack” Yoshino, president of Ken Corporation – joined five of Gov. Eddie Calvo’s appointees and three Legislative appointees on Thursday.
Christopher Anderson, assistant superintendent, Special Education for Guam Department of Education; Mark Baldyga, chairman and CEO for Baldyga International Group; Edward “Champ” Calvo, attorney for Calvo, Fisher & Jacob; John Limtiaco, vice president of Far East Equipment Company; and Agat Mayor Carol Tayama, a returning board member, represent Gov. Calvo’s appointees.
Legislative appointees include returning board member Theresa Arriola of Pa’a Tatao Tano; former Sen. Hope Cristobal; and returning board member Dr. Judy Flores of the Historic Inalahan Foundation.
As the first order of business, the newly formed body elected the 12th member, a responsibility set by Guam Public Law. Oscar Miyashita, senior advisor for Ernst & Young, received full board approval.
Upon selecting Miyashita and approving Mesa as board chairman, the board chose Baldyga as vice chairman and Cristobal as secretary/treasurer. The following were selected as chairmen for respective GVB committees:
* New Market Development – Kloppenburg
* Membership – Kloppenburg
* Existing Markets – Yoshino
* Japan Market – Baldyga
* Destination Management – Limtiaco
* Sports – Miyashita
* Cultural Heritage & Community Outreach – Arriola
* Administration & Government Relations – Cristobal
Committee heads for Research and Korea Market were not selected Thursday due to the absence of some board members.
For the time being, all members agreed to continue scheduled meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. An orientation for new board of directors will be held on Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. in the GVB main office.
